Check engine light and diagnostics, at your place

A code is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The parts-store reader says oxygen sensor; the data says a vacuum leak. We bring the tool and the time to tell the difference.

$35/hr per hour plus parts · Prices are the floor. We set a fair number with you.

We read live data, freeze frames, and misfire counters, not just the stored code. Altitude matters here: at 7,000 feet a slightly weak fuel pump or a dirty mass airflow sensor throws codes that the same car never sets in Phoenix.

Electrical gremlins are most of what we chase. Parasitic draws that kill a battery overnight, a ground strap rotted by road salt, a rodent-chewed harness from a summer at the cabin. Diagnostic time is billed by the hour like everything else, and we stop and talk to you before it gets expensive.

If the fix is one we can do on the spot, we do it. If it needs a shop, you leave with the actual problem written down so nobody sells you a guess.

When you call, have this

  • Which light, and whether it flashes
  • How the car behaves: stalls, misses, hesitates
  • Year, make, model, and engine

Questions people ask

A flashing check engine light. Should I drive it?
No. A flashing light means an active misfire that can melt the catalytic converter. Pull over, call us, and we come to it.
The parts store already read the code. Why pay for a diagnosis?
Because the code names the circuit that complained, not the part that failed. Replacing parts by code is how people spend $400 on sensors for a $12 vacuum hose. An hour of diagnosis is usually cheaper than one wrong part.
Can you clear the light so I can pass emissions?
Navajo County does not require emissions testing, and clearing a light without fixing the cause just brings it back. We would rather fix it.
